Reporting Student Behaviour
Reports of student behaviour can be made by the bus driver, a student, a parent, a teacher or any community member. If the report is to be placed on file (i.e. written report), with copies of the report going to the student's parents, the Supervisor of Student Transportation for the School District, the student's school bus driver and kept on file at the school, then the reporting person's name is placed on the 'Bus Conduct Report Form'. These forms are available from the school's General Office or may be filed by telephone. All reports are investigated and filed accordingly. Any disciplinary action taken is brought to the attention of the student's parents for whom the report indicates. Disciplinary action is not reported to the person who filed the report (exception being the student's bus driver).
The 'Bus Conduct Report Form' requires the date of the incident, the student's name, student's grade level (if known), and a brief explanation of the incident. There is a check list of infractions with space provided for written explanations. The person filing the report must indicate his/her name on the report. Each report is investigated further by the school's administration and disciplinary action taken where necessary. Each infraction on the list has a different starting point as to what would be the initial minimum disciplinary action. There are three different starting points:
- Form letter sent home explaining that there was an incident on the bus or at the bus stop with a copy of the 'Bus Conduct Report'. Parents are asked to speak with their child regarding the expected behaviour on the bus / at the bus stop. Any future reports would mean after school detention or suspension from the school bus.
- Letter sent home to the parents explaining that there was an incident on the bus or at the bus stop with a copy of the 'Bus Conduct Report'. The minimum of after school detention(s) is set and the parents are responsible for their child's transportation home. Any future reports would mean suspension from the school bus.
- Letter sent home to the parents explaining that there was an incident on the bus or at the bus stop with a copy of the 'Bus Conduct Report'. Suspension from the school bus is set and the parents are responsible for their child's transportation to and from school. Any future reports would mean longer suspension from the school bus.
The starting points only serve as a minimum disciplinary action for the infraction. At the discretion of the administration the disciplinary action can be increased. A second report filed on a student, no matter what the infraction would be, would mean after school detention or suspension from the school bus. A third report means suspension from the school bus and each report after that would mean longer suspension periods.
