GANDER ACADEMY SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

0.0 Approval of minutes
1.0 Principals report…..Deferred
2.0 Staff Appreciation week…thoroughly enjoyed by all staff. The healthier choices implemented over the past two years have been well received. Sun Heating, Geoff Wells, Tim Hazlett and Gander Mall Dental all thanked for their contributions for the recess breaks they provided and the sausages. All total there were approx 35 businesses that donated towards the staff give aways! 3.0 Class Size Numbers and Building Expansion Update: Pat has talked with Elizabeth about this. There have been THREE Capital Priorities:
1) St Paul’s 2) Gander Academy 3) School in GFW
These have been put forth to government for funding approval. We shall continue to encourage parents to identify to their MHA Mr. Kevin O’Brien the importance of Gander Academy being expanded due to steady increases in student enrollment.
4.0 On March 29th the school chairs meet with the school board and will be given an opportunity to submit THREE priorities, Pat will submit school expansion, school expansion and school expansion!
5.0 Specialist teacher allocation: these are units given for Phys. Ed/Art/Music….Elizabeth will given an update on how these are allocated.
6.0 Parking Lot….Safety concerns regarding vehicle and parent congestion. Biggest concern is always the winter months with decreased visibility due to snow piling up and parents dropping children off is increased due to the colder weather. Gander Academy School Council to encourage more bus use, the environmental benefits of more bus use, the increased safety of more bus use. Usually by the Spring when sidewalks are clearer and the weather is improved, the challenges around parent and vehicle congestion decreases.
7.0 Other: Smart Board Presentations planned for March 22nd and March 29th.
