GUIDING PRINCIPLES
- Every effort should be made to meet the needs of individual students in their regular classroom environment.
- When more than one special education teacher is working with students in the same class, every effort should be made to minimize the impact on whole class activities.
- Students being removed from the class for individual/small group instruction are not required to complete the assignments given to the class during their absence.
- Special education and classroom teachers are to consult with each other on a regular basis to discuss programming, assessment and other concerns related to students with an ISSP.
- All ISSP's and assessment reports are to be updated in accordance with Department and District guidelines with a copy of each placed in the student's cumulative file. This must include pathways documentation with modifications to outcomes and alternate courses attached, if appropriate.
- The maximum time between the date of referral and completion of assessment and recommendations for programming is one month.
- The pre-referral process as outlined by the Department are to be strictly adhered to. Referrals submitted without reference to pre-referral strategies, etc. and with supporting documentation will be returned to the individual making the referral.
