Roles of Education Personnel
GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  1. Every effort should be made to meet the needs of individual students in their regular classroom environment.

  2. When more than one special education teacher is working with students in the same class, every effort should be made to minimize the impact on whole class activities.

  3. Students being removed from the class for individual/small group instruction are not required to complete the assignments given to the class during their absence.

  4. Special education and classroom teachers are to consult with each other on a regular basis to discuss programming, assessment and other concerns related to students with an ISSP.

  5. All ISSP's and assessment reports are to be updated in accordance with Department and District guidelines with a copy of each placed in the student's cumulative file. This must include pathways documentation with modifications to outcomes and alternate courses attached, if appropriate.

  6. The maximum time between the date of referral and completion of assessment and recommendations for programming is one month.

  7. The pre-referral process as outlined by the Department are to be strictly adhered to. Referrals submitted without reference to pre-referral strategies, etc. and with supporting documentation will be returned to the individual making the referral.
